EOCO grills Ibrahim Mahama over alleged economic crime
Cute Ibrahim Mahama
Ibrahim Mahama is a brother of former President John Mahama
Ibrahim Mahama, the businessman brother of former President John Dramani Mahama, yesterday took his turn at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra, as the anti-graft investigation agency probes him over an alleged economic crime.
His appearance at EOCO, a now dreaded state agency, has long been expected and so when he eventually turned up as a guest of the Office, what started as pieces of speculation soon gained momentum with proof that he was indeed answering questions pertaining to some of his business activities.
Ibrahim Mahama, a source close to the agency told DAILY GUIDE, was questioned about his suspected issuance of dud cheques as Customs duties for some heavy-duty equipment he had imported into the country through the Tema Port.
It is thought that it was a whistleblower, who opened the lid over the can of worms now being investigated.
The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has by the development lost a whopping amount of money, should the charge against the businessman be proven beyond doubt.
Ibrahim Mahama, the man behind a large business empire in the country, has been the subject of discussions and gossips by both political observers and others – some of who think he benefitted unduly from contracts because of his brother’s exalted position as the President of Ghana – an allegation he has often deflected as untrue.
He has often said that being a Ghanaian, he too is entitled to local businesses.
He is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Engineers and Planners, a company many think has a hand in many engineering and construction projects across the country.
The Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, has been on Ibrahim’s neck for a period spanning the time the NDC was in power to now when it has been confined to the status of the largest opposition party in the country.
He had asked Ghanaians to consider how Ibrahim Mahama had been ripping the country of whopping amounts of money through fraudulent transactions, particularly under-declaration.
The MP has accused him of engaging in contracts which are largely not inuring to the economic interests of the country – charges he has often put forth with outstanding gusto in the media.

Kofi Adams sues NDC boys for calling him thief
Kofi Adams
National Organiser of the NDC, Kofi Adams
The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has hauled Network Broadcasting Limited, operators of Accra-based Radio Gold, before an Accra High Court for defamation.
The plaintiff, a former Aide of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings, aside Radio Gold, has also sued four members of his party for what he describes as their defamatory comments against him over the party’s 2016 electoral defeat by calling him a thief.
The four are Kodzo Keglo Hamenya, Okaikoi North Constituency Secretary of the NDC; Emmanuel Ashaley Tetteh, Communications Officer, Klottey Korle Constituency; Stephen Afutu Neequaye, Communications Officer, Okaikoi Central Constituency and James Deku, aka Agbee.
According to Mr. Adams, who was the campaign coordinator for former President John Mahama’s re-election in the run-up to Election 2016, the four defamed him when they appeared on the Latebiokorshie-located radio station saying, “We have never seen such a useless national organizer/campaign coordinator…[and that all] Kofi Adams knows is to steal money and cars and disrespect everybody.”
Sampson Lardi Ayenini, lawyer for Mr. Adams, in a statement of claim among other things, opined that the defendants and their said defamatory statements meant and were natural and ordinarily understood by right-thinking members of society to mean that the plaintiff is useless and a criminal who has no regard for everyone.
As a result, Mr. Adams is demanding compensatory damages to the tune of GH¢600,000 each for injury to his character and integrity.

Stop Shatta Wale from performing profane songs on campus – Student pleads with authorities
A final year student of the University of Ghana, Legon, Maxwell Amofia is asking authorities of the school to prevent Ghanaian musicians from performing profane songs whenever they are on campus to entertain their fans.
The Radio Univers presenter who is not enthused about some songs dancehall artiste Shatta Wale sang over the weekend when he stormed Bani Hall artiste night asked heads of the institution to check songs musicians plan to perform when they are billed for shows at Legon. In a mail Mr. Amofia sent to Zionfelix.net, he stated that these checks would help contribute to the good morals the school wants to give the students.
Below is what Maxwell Amofia, a final year student of the University of Ghana sent to Zionfelix.net concerning Shatta Wale’s performance on Legon campus, April 1.
"For every well-organised musical show, the managers largely determine the number of songs an artiste will perform and sometimes the specific songs that should be performed. This is obviously done in line with the purpose and aim of organising the event or show.
If organisers or sponsors are supposed to check the songs these artistes perform even at outdoor events and clubs, wouldn’t it be prudent to do same when these artistes are billed to perform in educational institutions like the University of Ghana?
When an artiste has extremely profane songs which are popular or hits, a corporate institution that organises a show should be able to point out to the artiste that profane songs are not suitable for certain environments especially an educational institution.
The story was quite different when Busy Internet partnered United Nations Hall (Bani) for their 2017 Artiste Night on the campus of the University of Ghana. Billed for the night were Shatta Wale, Keche, T-Phlow, King Promise among other artistes.
Shatta Wale mounted the stage around 9:30pm and performed for an hour. Aside his Radio friendly songs, the SM Boss also performed a number of lyrically explicit songs not befitting for a campus show that doesn’t only intend to entertain but also educate.
He performed tunes like ‘Wo Mame Tw3’, and ‘Onyeaye Sorr’. Both songs speak about commonly known Ghanaian insults referring to the vagina of one’s Mother. This is a clear disrespect to womanhood and motherhood.
Shatta Wale performed at the Glo Caf Awards last year but was instructed to perform only one song titled ‘Reality’, which has no trace of profanity. In an interview, he admitted that there was no way he could have objected. So why did organisers of this show allow for such a disturbing incident to occur?
If the Dean of Students checks on the time show on campus end and the nature of these shows, shouldn’t he also check on some of these acts of immorality? Should a school that seeks to teach good morals host shows that will make derogatory remarks about the female reproductive organ?
Just a month ago, female dancehall artiste Ebony mounted a stage on the same campus and she was seen touching and playing with her private organ throughout the show. As if we hadn’t had enough, she ordered for a bed to be brought on stage. The next thing we realised was that she had pounced on a boy on the bed and was displaying what should have been limited to the bedroom.
Why has the Dean of Students of the University of Ghana been silent on such issues? Perhaps, it hasn’t gotten to his attention yet.
I love to see Shatta Wale perform everyday but his management team together with organisers of events should scrutinise his selected songs even before the day of the show. There should be some sanctity on our campuses".
